“Jacob Banks is becoming one of the UKs most compelling artists” – i-D
Straight off the back of his storming, soul-shredding debut EP The Boy Who Cried Freedom, UK future soul star Jacob Banks announces a world tour that will take the 25 year-old Birmingham-born artist across Europe, on to North America and then back to the UK for his biggest headline shows to date, commencing in October.
A truly captivating live performer, Jacob’s shows have a habit of selling out within hours of being announced. He delivered a spellbinding performance at London’s Hoxton Bar & Kitchen in April and will be back in London to headline a sold out date at Village Underground in Shoreditch on October 30th, with the addition of another date at KOKO on December 12th.
The Boy Who Cried Freedom, released on Polydor Records in the UK and Darkroom/Interscope in the US, dropped this Spring to widespread acclaim, with The FADER calling stand-out track ‘Chainsmoking’ “impassioned”, highlighting Banks’ “soul-shaking timber.” NYLON meanwhile wrote, “Every so often, a musician comes along with a voice that stops listeners in their tracks” and Clash magazine called the EP “Gritty soul with a future stomp,” continuing, “the impeccable production seems to push the newcomer’s voice to impassioned new heights.” The 405 simply exclaimed, “A voice you’ll never forget”.
With new music in the pipeline, some of his most striking work to date, it’s safe to say that Jacob Banks won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
