Indie-pop trio AJR have come a long way since forming 10 years ago, when they got their start busking on the streets and in the parks of New York City.
Their latest release What Everyone’s Thinking is a 5-song EP decorated with explosive choruses and buoyant synth. Lead single from the EP, “Weak,” has received major acclaim landing them a performance on TODAY on April 5th. It has racked up an impressive 123 Million streams on Spotify alone and has reached Top 30 in over 25 countries. The track currently sits at #23 on the iTunes Pop Chart. With major market support from the likes of WKSC Chicago, WQMP Orlando, WRVW Nashville SiriusXM Hits1, Radio Disney and more, the track debuted #38 at Top 40 radio.
From the introspective, yet upbeat EP opener “Come Hang Out,” to the quirky “I’m Not Famous,” to the emotional “Turning Out” and closer “No Grass Today,” What Everyone’s Thinking has something for everyone and showcases the band’s undeniable knack for creating hits.
AJRrecently had the honor of performing atThe White Housefor the IT’S ON US Campus Sexual Assault Summit. The organization is one the band holds very close to their hearts, as its mission is to reframe the conversation about sexual assault on college campuses. As part of their partnership with IT’S ON US, AJR has written and recorded a theme song for the organization that will be released March 31st.
Comprised of three brothers – Adam, Jack, and Ryan – from which the group derives their namesake, AJR first achieved major acclaim with their single “I’m Ready.”The electro-pop smash iscertified Platinumwith over 18.5 million YouTube views, 44.5 million Spotify streams, a feature
in Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck trailer, double platinum certification in Australia and airplay on pop radio stations across the country. The hit garnered praise from Billboard, PopCrush, Idolator and more and secured them live performances on TODAY, Live with Kelly, X Factor Australia, and VH1 Big Morning Buzz.
Adam (bass/vocals), is a 25-year old Columbia University graduate. Ryan (ukulele/piano/ vocals), a bespectacled 22-year old Columbia junior serves as the band’s main songwriter (in addition to AJR’s music, he has also co- written Andy Grammer’s hits “Back Home” and certified Gold record “Good To Be Alive”). Jack (vocals/guitar), the 18-year old force-of-nature splits his time between singing lead vocals and attending Columbia as a freshman.
Raised on the vinyl of the ‘50s and ‘60s, AJR was initially inspired by the likes of The Beach Boys and Frankie Valli, but the sound they’ve created has now been favorably compared to a modern mix of those classic sounds, with flavors of Imagine Dragons, Fun., and even some hip-hop production elements pointing towards Kanye West.
AJR writes, records, and produces all of their music from the living room of their Chelsea apartment. No pop Svengali overseeing their work. No studio musicians filling in the blanks. No Max Martin co-write. Simply a DIY pop group with Pro Tools and a $99 microphone.
On stage the band comes to life, filling rooms around the country with contagious energy. Having toured with Demi Lovato, Train, Andy Grammer, Hoodie Allen, and American Authors, the group is no stranger to the spotlight. They just closed out their highly acclaimed What Everyone’s Thinking SOLD OUT U.S. headline tour, which thrilled fans in packed rooms across the country!
The band is in the middle of writing and recording for their full album follow up to the What Everyone’s Thinking EP due out June 2017.
